Scienion introduces new models of the sciFLEXARRAYER product line at Medica

Scienion AG launched two new models of its successful sciFLEXARRAYER dispensing systems, the perfect tools for automated ultra-low volume liquid handling of biological samples in the genomic and proteomic world. While the small sciFLEXARRAYER DW represents the ideal entry model, sciFLEXARRAYER SX is a scalable robotic dispensing platform that can be adjusted to the needed size of the working area when ordered. Substantial customer interest in both products at recent Medica in Düsseldorf.

Dortmund and Berlin, Germany, November 19, 2008: “Our distinct customer orientation is one of the pivotal success factors of Scienion. We have developed our new sciFLEXARRAYER models DW and SX to even better meet the needs of definite user subgroups”, says Dr. Holger Eickhoff, CEO of Scienion AG. “The DW is a space-saving, easy-to-use and inexpensive format for labs with precious samples in a limited throughput. The SX was developed for increased capacity and larger working areas in batch production environments.”

The sciFLEXARRAYER DW is both small and lightweight – ideal for labs where space is limiting and portability is critical. The efficient turntable design of the DW ensures a small footprint. The DW is a dedicated tool to speed-up basic research and to shorten development times for multi-parallel bioanalytics. It is centered around, but not limited to, microarray based applications. Applications include the handling and deposition of DNAs, oligos, peptides, proteins, antibodies, glycans, lysates and a variety of different cells onto multiple substrates. The DW allows the user to work in different modes. In addition to an aspirate/dispense mode from vials, the system allows for bulk dispensing or aliquoting from large reservoirs (up to 1 liter). The DW enables spotting of customized arrays with dot pitch sizes above 200 µm with pico- to nanoliter volumes of up to 16 biological samples on up to four slides.

The sciFLEXARRAYER SX comes with an integrated enclosure and enables users to choose working areas from 1400 cm2 to 3375 cm2. Thus, the capacity for standard formats such as microtiter plates or glass slides can be increased. Beside these conventional microarray formats the system can hold larger formats like wafers or membranes easily. The sciFLEXARRAYER SX combines an optimized design for a better relation of footprint to working area, reduced weight and excellent motion performance. In addition the optimized footprint helps saving expensive labroom or cleanroom floor space.

Both new sciFLEXARRAYER models and other Scienion products have been presented recently at Medica in Düsseldorf, Germany, November 19-22, 2008 and aroused substantial interest among potential customers.

About Scienion AG
SCIENION AG is a life science company well positioned in the markets of ultra low volume liquid handling systems and microarray technologies. We provide our customers with an integrated product portfolio facilitating and improving multiparallel bioanalytics, high throughput screening and high throughput production of microarrays in the genomics and proteomics fields – from early research to manufacturing. Our approach is to provide our customers in pharmaceutical, biotech, diagnostic and reagents companies as well as in academic research institutions with high quality products serving as cost- and time-saving tools for their applications.
Based on Scienion’s expertise and proprietary platform technologies our product portfolio comprises hardware, consumables and services. Our products are protected by a broad patent portfolio.
Scienion’s leading product line are sciFLEXARRAYER dispensing systems, available in a product line of six size versions DW, S3, S5, S11, SX and S100. The ultra low volume liquid handling systems allow non-contact micro drop delivery in the picoliter to microliter range onto a variety of vessels, surfaces and carriers.
Founded in 2000 in Berlin as a spin-off of the Max-Planck-Institute for Molecular Genetics, the company today operates from two sites, Dortmund and Berlin.
